This condition often occurs when nerves do not slide properly along their paths, which can lead to well-known problems such as sciatica (pain associated with the sciatic nerve) or carpal tunnel syndrome (associated with the median nerve). The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in the body, and compression of it often causes sharp pain radiating from the lower back into the leg. The median nerve, which runs through the wrist and hand, can cause tingling, numbness, or pain in the fingers when it is not freely flowing.
